On 4 and 5 April, the TEHIC team met for its third international meeting in Lisbon, hosted by the Portuguese partner, Mapa das Ideias.
After the first year since the official launch of the project and following the publication of our first major outcome, the Best Practice Handbook “Heritage Interpretation: A European Perspective”, the focus now shifts to the next milestones, including the TEHIC curriculum and the training modules with their corresponding learning units.
During the meeting, the University of Gothenburg and the University of Zagreb presented their progress on the Curriculum for Heritage Interpretation. Meanwhile, Mapa das Ideias and the University of Freiburg led the discussions to initiate the development of the training modules and their learning units. As in previous meetings, several sessions were dedicated to group dynamics, allowing all TEHIC team members to share insights and enrich our collaborative work and final project outcomes.
As part of the meeting, Mapa das Ideias organised the conference “Museum mediation and heritage interpretation: European experiences” on the second day, held at the Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência in Lisbon.
TEHIC team members were involved both as speakers and active participants. The University of Gothenburg presented the project, while the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage and the Association for Interpretation introduced the Best Practice Handbook. Engaging discussion sessions covered interesting topics such as the importance of experimentation and creativity in cultural interpretation, the value of taking risks, and the complexities of dealing with sensitive heritage issues.
The next meeting is scheduled for October in Germany, hosted by the University of Freiburg.
