The TEHIC project officially kicked off with a successful face-to-face meeting in Seville on 13th and 14th February 2023. The meeting was expertly organized by one of the Spanish partners, the Andalusian Historical Heritage Institute (IAPH for its Spanish acronym).
Day 1: First steps in the project
The first day started with a short visit to the IAPH, where we familiarised ourselves with the institution’s headquarters, followed by a warm welcome and introduction by the project’s lead partners. After a short group dynamic to break the ice and get to know better the other organisations involved in the project, a workshop was organised in which each member country presented the current situation of Heritage Interpretation in Europe.
Throughout the meeting, several topics were addressed, including the interpretation concept and criteria for evaluating experiences in this field. In collaboration with the Association of Heritage Interpretation (AIP for its Spanish acronym), the IAPH presented a set of criteria to serve as guidelines and indicators for selecting cases to be included in the guide of best practices, a collaborative effort between both institutions.
The meeting was notable for the participation of Juan José Primo, the director of IAPH, who expressed his support for the project. Additionally, Pilar Tasara, the coordinator of the Interreg Atlantic CultureScape project, shared practical examples of materials developed within her project, enriching the discussions.
Day 2: Interpreted tour "The Fleet Arrives" in Seville
During the second day of the meeting, the University of Seville introduced the Diploma of Specialisation in Cultural and Natural Heritage Interpretation. This newly established degree program at the university focuses on developing a comprehensive heritage interpretation curriculum within higher education. The working day ended with an engaging and inspirational showcase of an interpretative activity titled “The Fleet Arrives,” conducted by Sevilla a la carta. Through this activity, we had the opportunity to delve into the history and some of the most representative monuments of the city that hosted the beginning of this project.
This successful meeting in Seville marks TEHIC’s first steps towards a promising project, with which the interpretation of cultural and natural heritage in Europe will reach new levels of excellence.
